How to read the arms
The arms show what kind of hug it is.
つ or づ on both sides, as in (づ˘ω˘)づ, are arms reaching out to hug the person you are writing to.
⊂ ⊃ around the face are wide open arms waiting for a hug.
Speed lines like ─=≡Σ in front mean someone is running at you for a hug.
Hugs for different moments
Comfort: one face patting a crying face, like (；ω；)ヾ(´∀｀* ). Send it when a friend is sad.
Cozy: sleepy, calm hugs for good night.
Excited: sparkly eyes or a running hug for “you’re back!”.
Romantic: hugs with hearts or kisses for a partner.
A hug when words are hard
When someone shares bad news, it can be hard to know what to say. A short line like “I’m sorry, sending you a hug” plus a gentle face is often enough. Pick a calm face without loud sparkles for serious moments.
Hugs on Discord and in DMs
Most hug faces are short and use common characters, so they show up well in Discord, Instagram DMs and plain text messages. Some people also write the word hugs between stars. On Discord, stars turn that word into slanted italic text, which looks like an action. If you want the stars to stay, use the Discord-safe copy. A hug face after the word makes it even warmer.
