Peace Sign Kaomoji
A small v next to the face is a hand flashing a peace sign, the classic photo pose.

The v is the hand
The peace sign in a kaomoji is simply the letter v placed right beside the face, as in ( ^_^)v. Put one on each side for a double peace sign: v(・ω<)v. A capital V reads as a bigger, bolder hand, as in ( ̄▽ ̄)V. Some faces use the full-width v, which sits a little wider next to Japanese characters.
What the pose means
The V sign has long been a favourite pose for photos in Japan and across East Asia, and kaomoji borrowed it. In chat it rarely means anything political. It means cheerful, proud or “nailed it”. A wink plus a peace sign, like (^_-)v, is cheeky. Add sunglasses, as in ♡(⌐■_■)v♡, and it turns cool.
Typing one by hand
Because the hand is just a letter, many peace sign faces use only keys from a normal keyboard. (^o^)v works in game chats and other places that block symbols. Animals can pose too: you will find cats, bears, birds and pigs holding up a v on this page.
