Hello and Wave Kaomoji

The waving hand

Most waving faces use a small Japanese character as the hand.

• ﾉ or ノ after the face is one hand raised, as in (｡･ω･｡)ﾉ.
• ﾉｼ adds a motion line, so the hand is moving side to side.
• ヾ in front is a hand waving fast, often with both arms, like ヾ(*´∀｀*)ﾉ.

Hello or goodbye?

The same wave can mean both, so the words around it matter. For hello, put the face first: “(・θ・)ノ hi everyone!”. For goodbye, put it last: “see you tomorrow (^･ω･^)ﾉｼ”. A wave with tears is a sad goodbye, for the end of a trip or a friend moving away.

Greeting a new server or group

Joining a new Discord server or group chat can feel awkward. A short hello with a friendly wave is an easy first message, and an animal wave like a cat or bird feels playful without being too much. Keep it simple: one face, one line.

Animal waves

Animals wave too, and they make a hello feel extra friendly. A cat lifts a paw with (=^･ω･^=)ﾉ, a puppy waves with (U・ω・U)ﾉ, and a little bird says hi with its wing. If your profile has a favourite animal, using the same animal for your greetings becomes a small signature that friends recognise.
